Answers to commonly asked questions about participating in the
CTE Employment Outcomes Survey.

Who should I contact for more information about CTEOS?
See contact information on the Staff page in the list of links on the left side of the page, or email cteos@santarosa.edu

How do I sign up?
Have your institution's CIO fill out this survey: https://santarosa.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1C9q28Nz7dUYpRr

Which questions are included in the survey?

Click here to see the 2017 survey instrument.

Is there any way of having a good idea of the costs prior to signing up?
There is no cost to participate in the survey this year.

When do you anticipate the colleges needing to provide the student contact lists?
In December, Santa Rosa Junior College will provide a data file with student names and social security numbers, which the institution will use to generate contact information for each student. You will need to return contact information by mid-January.

When will the surveys be conducted?

  • The email surveys will be conducted by the end of February.
  • The sms surveys will be conducted by the end of April.
  • The phone surveys will be conducted by the end of July.
  • Individualized reports will be given to the colleges by the end of August.
  • By the beginning of October 2017, we will provide colleges with individual detailed data sets, and will provide a complete statewide data file to the Chancellor’s Office for inclusion in the online CTE Data Unlocked tool.

Who will be included in the survey?
For the 2016-17 survey, the cohort of students will include those who in the 2014-2015 academic year:

  1. Completers: Have received a vocational/CTE award that is Chancellor’s Office approved and enroll in 0-5 units each semester the next year (not enrolled or only minimally enrolled).
  2. Terminal Certificates: Received a vocational/CTE award of at least 6 units that is not Chancellor’s Office approved (such as certificates with less than 12 units) and are not enrolled the following year.
  3. Skills Builders: Have completed 9 units that are SAM coded A-D, with at least one course SAM coded A-C (within the prior 3 years), have not received a vocational/CTE award of 6 or more units, and are not enrolled the following year.

Our district does not report certificates not approved by the Chancellor's Office to MIS. If we have this information stored locally, can we augment the file?
Yes. Please provide an approximate count of those students with an estimate of how many of those students would be already included in the third inclusion criteria listed above and email cteos@santarosa.edu

How is this different from the pilot survey?
In the pilot year, we only included students who were CTE concentrators with 12 units or more in a program. The refined methodology allows us to better understand outcomes for students who may be benefitting from taking a smaller number of courses and who appear to have completed their course-taking, whether or not they received a credential from a community college. Thus, the survey is shifting from identifying "completers" and "leavers" related to certificates and degrees, and instead is looking at outcomes for a broader range of student course-taking patterns. You can read more about why capturing lower-unit certificates may be important for CTE programs here.
